But Rubber Gloves and Toilet Dunking
Most of you have heard horror stories from your
mothers and grandmothers about the labor of love they endured for you.
Thanks to modern washing machines, clean up of today's cloth diapers takes a simple toss into the pail
(just like disposables!) See our Laundering Section
for details. But Soaking for Days in a Wet Pail
Wet pails are thankfully no longer recommended for cloth diapers. A quick shake of
baking soda into the pail with the diaper, and you can do your cloth diaper laundry
every 2-3 days. Disposables often are emptied at the same rate.
But Messy Poops are Nasty to Clean Off
Again, thanks to the modern washing machine and the prerinse cycle, you need
not fight any more with poopie in a cloth diaper than you do with disposables. Until solid
food is in Baby's diet, simply toss into the pail until laundry day. After
solid food, use one of these strategies:
| 1) |
Shake whatever will come off into toilet. Toss in
pail. |
| 2) |
Use a spray tool to help loosen into the toilet. |
| 3) |
Use flushable liners to shake easily into the toilet. |

But Ouch! Diaper Pins!
Diaper pins are nearly obsolete. Thanks to snug fitting cloth diaper
covers (wraps) and the invention of rubber fasteners, nothing sharp needs be
near Baby. All In Ones (AIO) and
pocket diapers take the need for pins away entirely!
But There's Horrible Diaper Rash
Using ⅓ the recommended amount of laundry detergent allows the rinse cycle
to rid your cloth diapers of detergent residue, eliminating
residue-caused rashes. Modern diaper covers (wraps) have come a long way
from those awful "rubber pants" too. Modern wraps are breathable.
Diaper rash has actually become less common in cloth diapered babies. (See article.)
But Cloth Diapers Leak
Ah, they USED to leak. Check out the awesome products offered on
DiaperBeagle.com. New cloth diapers are sized to fit Baby and often have elastic
at the legs and velcro or snaps to achieve customized size at the waist.
But They're Inconvenient
Again, they USED to be. If you're concerned about convenience, look into
an All In
Ones (AIO) or
pocket diapers one step system. |
